Payson has many unique hotels, motels, inns, bed and
breakfast’s (b&b's), vacation rentals, restaurants, shops,
attractions and more. It is located just a little over an hour from
Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, and Mesa. With an elevation of almost
5,000 feet, it is also known for its beautiful panoramic views and
ever-expanding recreational opportunities and spectacular scenery.
Ninety-seven percent (97%) of the surrounding land is either under
the jurisdiction of the United States Forest Service (Tonto National
Forest) or tribal land.
The first rodeo in Payson was held in 1884 and they
consider their rodeo the "world's oldest continuous" as
it has been held every year since. In September it is the site of
the
annual Arizona State Championship Old Time Fiddlers Contest. The
Payson area is also a popular destination for rockhounds where quartz,
geodes, agate, and onyx can be found. We hope you will consider
Payson for your next vacation.
